Creative Exploration: Art Sessions with Leo
As part of our ongoing trainee programme, we were thrilled to host a series of inspiring art sessions led by Leo, a talented local artist and dedicated volunteer with NW5. These sessions were designed to enrich the creative skills of our older youth and staff while exploring innovative ways to use both indoor and outdoor environments to develop and deliver engaging activities.
Our time outdoors took us to the picturesque Hampstead Heath, where nature became both our classroom and inspiration. Participants explored a variety of activities, including drawing the surrounding landscapes, den building, and creative printing. These activities encouraged not only artistic expression but also teamwork and an appreciation for the natural world.
The indoor sessions were equally dynamic, focusing on how we can use our senses—taste, smell, touch, and sound—to inspire creativity. Using everyday items found around the home, participants were introduced to new techniques and perspectives on art-making, opening up a world of accessible and imaginative possibilities.
These sessions were not just about creating art; they were about fostering new skills, exploring innovative ideas, and learning how to use art as a tool for connection and engagement. The combination of indoor and outdoor settings provided a holistic learning experience, showing how creativity can thrive in any environment.
We are incredibly grateful to Leo for sharing his expertise and passion, and to everyone who participated with such enthusiasm. These sessions have left a lasting impact, empowering our trainees and staff to think outside the box and bring new ideas into their work with children and young people.
